Hannah Tilton - Board Member

Hannah TiltonHannah Tilton received her Bachelors of Science in Social Work with a minor in Psychology and Spanish from Marist College in 2007. While pursuing this degree, Hannah gained professional experience working with children and youth in afterschool programs, helping students achieve greatness and a foundation for a successful future. Hannah also conducted her field placement at a prenatal clinic as a case manager working with a diverse population of pregnant women. Also while at Marist, Hannah traveled abroad to South Africa to participate in a service learning program in which she volunteered at a child abuse prevention center while learning about the history and culture of the country.

Directly after Hannah received her undergraduate degree, she continued on to pursue her Masters Degree in Social Work from Monmouth University, concentrating in International and Community Development. During Hannah’s graduate year she held an internship in program development with an international youth advocacy federation, helping to develop a new organization that would link together youth advocacy organizations from around the world and incorporate the voice of their youth. Also during her year at Monmouth University, Hannah traveled abroad to Ghana for two months to work with the Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment, teaching school children about abuse, working with refugee women to empower them economically, and raising awareness and funds about abuse towards women in Ghana.

In 2008 Hannah worked at a small learning center as a supervisor and created a safe and nurturing learning environment for children. Hannah worked here for a year and then accepted a job in Philadelphia working for nonprofit organization. Hannah is currently working here to provide support to pregnant and parenting teens in high school so that they may graduate, attend a college or career training program, and become nurturing parents.

Hannah has learned a great deal from working with children and adults in diverse settings. She has been able to see first hand the need for organizations like UjimaCare to provide aid to some of the most impoverished communities. Hannah loves working with people to help provide them the support they need to better their lives and hopes to work towards providing all children with a healthy start so that they can attain a healthy future.

“And make friends and love well,
bring art to this place.
And make the world better
for the whole human race.”
